Speed from Video
With the explosion of video sources (surveillance, dashcams, doorbells, GoPros, cell phones, etc.), more and more of the collisions we’re tasked with reconstructing are captured on video. As such, it’s increasingly important to understand this evidence.
One of the primary analyses performed using video is determining vehicle speed. Although it seems simple enough, factors such as frame timing, camera distortion, camera movement, and dropped frames, among others, can significantly affect the accurate measurement of a vehicle’s speed.
