A Look Inside Lightpoint’s Exemplar Vehicle Point Cloud Packages

Lou reviews what is included in an exemplar vehicle point cloud package from Lightpoint and how to access the data.

A rough transcript can be found below.

(00:00):

Hey everyone, this is Lou at Lightpoint, and I'm going to show you around our most popular product, exemplar vehicle point clouds. Exemplar vehicle point clouds are useful for performing video analysis, crush analysis, dimensional analysis, biomechanical analysis, visibility studies, simulation, and animation. However, finding the appropriate exemplar is often time consuming and gaining access to that vehicle is almost universally an awkward process.

(00:33):

So that's why we created this database. So we could measure the vehicle once and then it could be used over and over by the rest of the community. Each exemplar package will come with five basic items. There will be photographs of the subject vehicle including the exterior, the interior, and the manufacturer's placard. In addition, there will be a decode of the vehicle identification number and a report from the registration of the related point clouds. There will also be a calibration certificate from whatever scanner was used to create the data. And then you'll have the point cloud itself, which is delivered in PTS format.

(01:06):

This is what the data looks like upon import. As you can see, the vehicle is aligned and stray points and noise have been cleaned by our scanning tech with a care and precision of a surgeon, so the point clouds are ready to be plugged straight into your analyses. I hope this has been helpful. If you have any questions about the product, please feel free to email me or Sam.
