• This course is offered online with pre-recorded modules that can be taken during any two-week period of your choosing. Depending on the student and prior experience, the course will take 4 - 5 full days.

Office hours are not included in the on-demand format.

  • We highly recommend that students interested in the on-demand format of this course have prior experience with PhotoModeler, as this course does not include office hours.

Lou does his best to be available to on-demand students, but his time is limited with case work and other teaching commitments. If you don’t have experience with PhotoModeler, we recommend enrolling in a live course for the best experience.

  • The majority of the exercises will be taught in PhotoModeler Premium (30-Day Trial) and CloudCompare (freeware).

There is also a module with an optional exercise, which can be completed in PFTrack (free use download with limited features).

  • The course has been approved for up to 27 CEUs. The CEUs are awarded on attendance of office hours and completion of the projects.

  • How is this course different from the hybrid/live course?

The live courses include office hours, which give the students an opportunity to ask questions, troubleshoot their projects, and network with other participants. If you don’t have prior experience with PhotoModeler, we highly recommend taking the live course. Details on the next live course can be found here.

What software is needed for this course?

The foundational software for this course will be PhotoModeler Premium and students will received a fully functional trial license in advance.

How long will I have access to the materials?

You will have access to the recorded modules through the two-week duration of the course.

Lightpoint Learning offers lifetime access to digital course materials such as the presentations themselves, handouts, etc. As our courses evolve with updated material and content, those materials will be shared with all prior attendees.

Who submits my CEUs to ACTAR?

Following the successful completion of a course, CEUs will be submitted to ACTAR by Lightpoint and should show on your dashboard within a few weeks. If for any reason they don’t, please contact Sam at smccool@lightpointdata.com.

Training Results

Mastering photogrammetry is becoming increasingly crucial with the ubiquity of crash videos (surveillance, dash cams, Ring® doorbells, etc.) and cell phone photography, which is frequently used by both law enforcement and civilians to document vehicle damage and roadway evidence, even when measurements were not acquired. Most modern, complete reconstructions demand the use of photogrammetry; whether it’s used to accurately establish the speed of a vehicle from video, to diagram roadway evidence, or to model crush after a vehicle has been salvaged. Investing in your photogrammetry skillset will not only enhance your firm’s capabilities but also your career, empowering you to perform thorough analyses and deliver the most comprehensive reconstructions.

This course equips the reconstructionist with a solid understanding of photogrammetry and current techniques through review of literature, sample evidence, and extensive hands-on exercises. Attendees will learn to confidently:

  • Model exemplar vehicles

  • Measure crush when the vehicle is no longer available for inspection

  • Use scene photos to diagram roadway evidence

  • Integrate point clouds into their analyses

  • Establish vehicle speeds using video

  • Work with advanced features of PhotoModeler

  • Interpret PhotoModeler quality reports

  • Create compelling graphical exhibits

  • Testify to results

By the end of this course, you'll not only understand photogrammetry's fundamental principles but also how to apply them effectively in real-world scenarios.
