Of all the fancy equipment I bring to inspections nowadays, this simple machine attracts the most attention.
A survey rod held firm by a weighted vice. It’s professional looking, doesn’t get blown about by the wind, and it can be moved around the vehicle easily. Thanks to Eric Deyerl for introducing me to this setup. I’ve been using it at vehicle inspections for over a decade and appreciate it every time.
Here’s what you need to build the setup.
Weighted base ($35)
2.25” vise ($56)
9’ survey rod ($33)
If you’d like a digital version of the vised scale bar to accompany your vehicle scan data, here’s a high-quality point cloud created with our Leica RTC360. The package includes the registration report and scanner calibration certificate. Use it in good health!
Thanks for reading, keep exploring!
