I always learn a ton at conferences. Between the formal presentations and random conversations with recons, I walk away with a whole heap of fresh insights and resources. For instance, I had the pleasurable experience of chatting with John Zolock at the Symposium on EDR Research and Training last week, and he informed me of a really valuable resource for heavy truck weights.

Arthur Trovei & Sons sells all sorts of heavy equipment. From tractors, street sweepers, and pickups, to trailers and backhoes, they’ve got an impressive inventory. Even more impressive: they weigh every vehicle on their commercial Mid America scale.

Check out this 2021 Freightliner Cascadia 125, for instance. The listing indicates the weight is 14,180 lbs and the video shows it rolling off the scale. Extremely useful if you don’t have an opportunity to directly weigh the vehicle in your crash.

Their site lists everything they have currently for sale, but with some sleuthing skills you can locate previously sold vehicles using a search term like "site:trovei.com Peterbilt" on Google, or the like.

Thanks so much to John for sharing this incredible resource, and thank you for reading.

Keep exploring,

Lou Peck
