I had the honor of working with the ICARS Team at the British Columbia RCMP headquarters this week. We spent a few days in the classroom and knocked out four full-scale crash tests with sport bikes between sessions. The team is highly skilled, highly trained, and very well equipped.

Many of their tools caught my eye (being a junky and all), including the Leica scale bar shown below. It’s a calibrated composite rod (looks like carbon fiber) that’s 1 m target-to-target, and the targets are designed to be easily detected by a scanner.

I like the idea of having a check measurement in the dataset to address any potential inquiries regarding accuracy or scanner calibration; though, such inquires are rare in my experience. The only downside: it’s about $2,500 and tough to find around the web. I’m going to reach out to my rep to get the full scoop, as it’s something I’m interested in adding to both my consulting and Lightpoint processes. I’ll report back in a P.S. shortly. In the meantime, if you're interested in performing a bit of sleuthing, the Leica part number is 6010779.

Thanks for reading, keep exploring!
