Ducati has offered their DDA system (Ducati Data Acquisition) since 2007, and while it has the ability record a ton of data, for a very long time, it’s still a datalogger that has to be installed and activated by the rider. As such, we’re really not likely to see related data in our line of work.

However, I recently learned from Ed Fatzinger that Ducati is now equipping some of their modern models with black boxes that record things like wheel speeds, throttle position, engine speed, gear position, IMU data, etc. A gold mine. They call the system DDM (Ducati Data Monitoring), and you can determine if a motorcycle is so-equipped by perusing the owner’s manuals, which can be found here. If you search for DDM in pertinent manuals, you’ll see something like this:

The manuals indicate the system …can only be downloaded by the official Ducati Service Network via Ducati Diagnostic System (DDS3.0) directly from the motorcycle and read only by Ducati Motor Holding. So, at this point, it seems we’ll need to work with Ducati to access the data. Who knows though, maybe Ed will work his magic down the line like he’s done with Kawasaki data. You can stay up to date with Ed’s work here.

Thanks for reading, keep exploring!
