I wanted to send along a useful morsel before you take off for the long weekend. This should help you find on-point literature when in need.
A great way to find pertinent literature
The Accident Reconstruction Journal [ARJ] has been published since January of 1989, and its sister publication Accident Investigation Quarterly [AIQ] was launched in 1994 (it’s a trip thumbing through the first editions, things have changed a lot). In those 34 years a plethora of topics have been covered in their pages and, fortunately for us, Vic Craig has maintained an index of all articles by topic, which is included in the back of ARJ annually. For instance, if you want to see what’s been published on crush analysis, here’s what’s on the ARJ / AIQ menu:
Even better, recon guru Wade Bartlett has taken it a step further and created a searchable spreadsheet version of the index with other publication sources added to the mix. That index is freely available to all NAPARS members. NAPARS members also get a complimentary subscription to ARJ, including back-issues. At $65/year, that’s some serious bang for the buck. I highly recommend taking advantage of Vic and Wade’s great efforts.
Have a great 4th, put the case work to the side and celebrate…the work will be there when you get back!

P.S. The Data Driven podcast with Eugene Liscio just launched today. We discussed the future of laser scanning, sensor fusion, full spectrum photography, his forensic toolkit, and the role of the smartphone.
