I had the pleasure of attending Brad Muir and Nick Manz’ presentation on Toyota VCH (vehicle control history) at WREX last month and wanted to relay a few related insights. So much data, in so many places.
Another place to look for data
The potential presence of VCH data still slips my mind from time to time, and it shouldn’t. It’s vital information that can help to better understand a collision. Many events that won’t trigger a deployment or non-deployment event, will trigger a VCH event that includes tons of juicy data like: speed, accelerator position, engine speed, steering angle, brake oil pressure, etc. In some cases, you’ll get imagery too.
As such, it’s crucial to perform a related interrogation of supported vehicles, which can be found here (thanks to Rick Ruth and Dave Little). To perform an interrogation, you’ll need a CDR 900 or Mongoose cable, and a subscription to Tech Stream Pro, which is currently $70 for two days here.
Chase the data! Like W. Edwards Deming said, "Without data, you're just another person with an opinion."

P.S. I'm running an online motorcycle recon course next month and would love to see some of you there! If you can make the time, registration details can be found here.
