This week’s email highlights a version of a super simple tool most of us use about as often as dental floss…a measuring wheel. Not the sexiest tool out there, but I was introduced to the Cadillac of wheels five years ago by Paul Jacobs, and its high-quality feel makes it a pleasure to use.

Steel-framed digital measuring wheel that sparks joy

The Keson MP401E isn’t cheap, currently selling on Amazon for $230, but it’s built to last with a full steel frame and a sealed counter. The digital screen is one of my favorite features, allowing you to change units and add a wheel radius to the count, which comes in handy when you're starting a measurement from a curb. The digital screen is also helpful if you’re working at night, as you can illuminate the screen allowing you to keep the flashlight holstered. Perhaps the sweetest perk is the crazy-smooth rolling feel that must be mainly a result of the wheel's rubber coating, it really glides over the asphalt. Cadillac.

It's a bit big for travel, so when I have to fly I use something more portable like the Keson Dual Measuring Wheel. Paired with a DIXON Lumber Crayon, you’ve got a compact kit for marking up a site.

Thanks for reading along, I hope the summer is treating you well!

P.S. My interview with Rick Ruth will be released next week, it’s a fun one I’m sure you’ll find both entertaining and insightful. If you haven’t checked out the episodes with Mark Crouch or Eugene Liscio, those can be found here.
